MN Winter Ice Fishing Regulations 2023
Thank you for sharing these fishing regulations. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) certainly plays a critical role in ensuring sustainable fisheries management. Their assessments revealed a healthy walleye population in both Upper Red Lake and Mille Lacs Lake.
For Mille Lacs Lake, by the start of winter regulations on December 1, anglers are allowed to keep one walleye between 21 to 23 inches or a fish longer than 28 inches. This comes after the summer open water season closes on November 30.
On Upper Red Lake, anglers can retain one walleye over 17 inches, and catch a total of 4 walleyes.
Please bear in mind that these regulations are aimed at maintaining the sustainability of the walleye population. Changes may sometimes be necessary based on seasonal evaluations.
